The hands, feet, and face
of this beautiful piece are carved from alderwood. The wood
pieces are attached to the soft body that has a wire frame so
she can be posed.
Her blanket, apron, and moccasins are made from soft wool flannel and
ultra suede.
The face, hands, and feet are hand carved alderwood, by myself, Carol
Young
Her hair is made from shredded cedar bark.
Her headband is woven from split cedar bark with an abalone head
piece.
This button blanket is hand sewn
and took over 25 hours to make. The whale design was created by
Captain Gold, Haida of the Na7ikun Qiigawaay Raven's Village and
reproduced by myself, Carol Young.
Hundreds of glass
pearl beads outline the whale crest design.
Over a
hundred very small mother of pearl antique buttons
outline the blanket and apron. These small mother of pearl
buttons are very hard to find, and have taken me years to
collect.
Each strand of the wool fringe on the blanket was hand sewn.
She has little hand made moccasins with a glass pearl bead design.
She stands 11 1/2 inches tall
This handcarved wooden character comes signed, dated, with
a certificate of authenticity and proof of
my tribe membership and status.
My art has sold worldwide
and is many art collections.
